Duff xg+ truck is the truck model with the largest cab and the most luxurious configuration in the new generation of Duff trucks. It is the flagship truck of today’s Duff brand and also plays a decisive role in all European Truck models. About xg+ this car, in fact, we have also published many real photos and introduction articles on Tijia commercial vehicle network. I believe that all readers are very familiar with this car.
Recently, 40ton truck media from Poland conducted an accurate fuel consumption test on Duff’s flagship xg+ with the help of the newly purchased Swiss AIC fuel consumption meter. How low can this flagship truck with many black technologies reduce fuel consumption? You will know when you see the end of the article.
The new generation of Duff xg+ uses many low wind resistance designs outside the vehicle. Although it looks like an ordinary Flathead truck, and it doesn’t use any low wind resistance modeling, every detail is actually exquisitely carved. For example, the curve of the vehicle is smoother, and more arc designs are introduced into the roof, which can reduce the wind resistance while maintaining the vehicle identification. The surface treatment has also become more refined, reducing the viscous resistance of air flow.
The electronic rearview mirror is also a standard configuration, and the xg+ is also equipped with a side front blind area camera as standard. However, due to the current chip shortage, many xg+ deliveries only reserve the electronic rearview mirror system and its screen. The system itself is not available, and traditional rearview mirrors are needed to assist.
LED headlights adopt a large curvature design, which is integrated with the vehicle contour, and also helps to reduce wind resistance. Incidentally, Duff’s LED headlights are provided as standard equipment, while LED headlights of Volvo and other brands need to be selected in Europe.
Under the chassis, Duff also designed an aerodynamic guard plate with small holes for air flow above, which filled the negative pressure area under the car. On the one hand, the guard plate can make the air flow more smoothly, on the other hand, it also plays a role in protecting the components of the power system.
In addition, the complete side skirt also helps the air flow, and takes into account its own visual performance. Under the shroud, under the wheel arch and above the side skirt, Duff designed a black rubber extension to guide the air.
Duff’s side radar is designed at the back of the side skirt and in front of the rear wheel. In this way, one radar can cover all the blind areas on the side. And the size of the radar shell is also small, which helps to improve the performance of wind resistance.
An air deflector is designed on the inner side of the wheel arch behind the front wheel, and the upper line plays a role in controlling the air flow direction.
The rear wheel configuration is even more fun. Although the whole car uses lightweight aluminum wheels, Duff also designed an aluminum alloy protective cover based on the rear wheel wheels. Duff introduced that this protective cover has greatly improved the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle, but I always feel that its appearance looks a little scary.
Xg+ urea tank is designed behind the wheel arch of the left front wheel, the body is pressed under the cab, and only the blue filler cap is exposed. This design makes use of the free space under the extended section after the cab is extended, and other equipment can be installed on the side of the chassis. At the same time, the urea tank can also use the waste heat in the engine area to keep warm and reduce the occurrence of urea crystallization. There is also such a vacancy behind the wheel arch of the right front wheel. Users can choose to install a water tank there for washing hands or drinking.
This test vehicle adopts a 480hp, 2500 nm version of peka mx-13 engine, which is matched with a 12 Speed ZF traxon transmission. The new generation of Duff trucks has optimized the piston and combustion of the engine, combined with the proven traxon gearbox and the 2.21 speed ratio rear axle, the efficiency of the power chain is very good. Equipped with high-performance cooling water pump, the bearing, impeller, water seal and pump body are OE parts.
There is an extension section under the door to wrap all places except the first step to reduce the wind resistance of the vehicle.
There is no need to say more about the interior. LCD dashboard, multimedia large screen, ultra wide sleeper and other configurations are available, and electric sleeper and other comfort configurations can also be selected. It is absolutely the first tier of Oka.
The test trailer adopts the Schmitz Trailer provided by the original factory of Duff, without aerodynamic kit, and the test is also more fair.
The trailer is equipped with a water tank for counterweight, and the whole vehicle is fully loaded.
The test route mainly passes through A2 and A8 expressways in Poland. The total length of the test section is 275 km, including uphill, downhill and flat conditions. During the test, the eco power mode of Duff on-board computer is mainly used, which will limit the cruise speed to about 85km / h. During this period, there was also manual intervention to accelerate to 90km/h manually.
The control strategy of the transmission is to avoid downshifting. It will give priority to upshifting and keep the engine speed as low as possible. In eco mode, the speed of the vehicle at 85 km / h is only 1000 rpm, and it will be as low as 900 RPM when going downhill on a small slope. In uphill sections, the gearbox will also try to reduce downshifts, and most of the time it operates in 11th and 12th gears.

The existence of Duff’s on-board intelligent cruise control system is very easy to perceive. It will frequently switch to neutral taxiing mode on downhill sections, and also accumulate speed to rush uphill before going uphill to make up for the speed drop caused by uphill. On the flat road, this cruise control system hardly works, which is convenient for the driver to control better. In addition, lengthening the cab makes it necessary to lengthen the wheelbase of the vehicle. The wheelbase of the vehicle reaches 4 meters, and the long wheelbase brings better driving stability.
The test section is 275.14 kilometers in total, with an average speed of 82.7 kilometers per hour and a total consumption of 61.2 liters of fuel. According to the value of the flowmeter, the average fuel consumption of the vehicle is 22.25 liters per hundred kilometers. However, this value is mainly concentrated in the high-speed cruise section, during which the average speed is very high. Even in uphill sections, the maximum fuel consumption is only 23.5 liters.
Compared with the Scania super 500 s Truck previously tested on the same road section, its average fuel consumption is 21.6 liters per 100 kilometers. From this point of view, Duff xg+ is really good at saving fuel. Coupled with its oversized cab configuration, excellent comfort and technology configuration, it is not surprising that its sales in Europe are rising.
