To continue to enhance customer competitiveness, Volvo Trucks has launched a new generation of heavy-duty trucks

Volvo Trucks has launched four new heavy-duty trucks with significant advantages in driver environment, safety and productivity. ”We are very proud of this important forward-looking investment,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Our goal is to be the best business partner for our customers, improve their competitiveness and help them attract good drivers in an increasingly competitive market.” Four heavy-duty trucks, the Volvo FH, FH16, FM and FMX series, account for about two-thirds of Volvo’s truck deliveries.

The growing demand for transportation has created a global shortage of good drivers. In Europe, for example, there is a gap of about 20 per cent for drivers. To help customers attract and retain these skilled drivers, Volvo Trucks has been working to develop new trucks that are safer, more efficient and more attractive to them.

“Drivers who can operate their trucks safely and efficiently are a very important asset to any transportation company. Responsible driving behaviour helps to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel costs, as well as the risk of accidents, personal injury and unintentional downtime. ”Our new trucks help drivers do their jobs more safely and efficiently, giving customers a greater advantage in attracting good drivers from their competitors.” Roger said Alm.

Each truck in Volvo’s new line of trucks can be equipped with a different type of cab and can be optimized for a variety of applications. In long-haul trucks, the cab is often the driver’s second home. In regional delivery trucks, it usually acts as a mobile office; In construction, trucks are sturdy and practical tools. As a result, visibility, comfort, ergonomics, noise levels, handling and safety are all key elements of focus in the development of each new truck. The appearance of the released truck has also been upgraded to reflect its features and create an attractive overall look.

The new cab offers more space and a better view

The new Volvo FM series and Volvo FMX series are equipped with an all-new cab and the same instrumentation display features as other larger Volvo trucks. The interior space of the cab has been increased by one cubic meter, thus providing greater comfort and more work space. Larger Windows, lowered door lines and a new rearview mirror further enhance the driver’s vision.

The steering wheel is equipped with an adjustable steering shaft for greater flexibility in driving position. The lower bunk in the sleeper cab is higher than before, not only increasing comfort, but also adding storage space below. The daytime cab has a 40-liter storage box with internal rear wall lighting. In addition, the enhanced thermal insulation helps to prevent cold, high temperature and noise interference, further improving the comfort of the cab; In-car air conditioners with carbon filters and controlled by sensors can improve air quality under any conditions.

All models feature a new driver interface

The driver area is equipped with a new information and communication interface that makes it easier for drivers to view and manage different functions, thereby reducing stress and interference. The instrument display uses a 12-inch fully digital screen, allowing the driver to easily select the information needed at any time. Within easy reach of the driver, the vehicle also has an auxiliary 9-inch display that provides entertainment information, navigation assistance, transportation information and camera surveillance. These functions can be operated by steering wheel buttons, voice controls, or touch screens and display panels.

The enhanced safety system helps prevent accidents

The Volvo FH series and The Volvo FH16 series further improve safety with features such as adaptive high-light headlights. The system can automatically turn off selected sections of the LED high beams when other vehicles are coming from opposite or behind the truck to improve the safety of all road users.

The new car also has more driver-assistance features, such as improved adaptive cruise control (ACC). This feature can be used at any speed above zero km/h, while downhill cruise control automatically enables wheel braking when needed to apply additional braking force to maintain a steady downhill speed. Electronic controlled Braking (EBS) is also standard on newer trucks as a prerequisite for safety features such as emergency braking with collision warning and electronic stability control. Also available is Volvo dynamic steering, which has safety features such as lane-keeping assist and stability assist. In addition, the road sign recognition system is able to detect road sign information such as overtaking limits, road type and speed limits and display it in an instrument display.

Thanks to the addition of a passenger side corner camera, the side screen of the truck can also display auxiliary views from the side of the vehicle, further expanding the driver’s view.

Efficient engine and backup powertrain

Both environmental and economic factors are important factors for transportation companies to consider. No single energy source can solve all climate change problems, and different transportation segments and tasks require different solutions, so multiple powertrains will continue to coexist for the foreseeable future.

In many markets, the Volvo FH series and Volvo FM series are equipped with Euro 6-compliant liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines, providing fuel economy and power performance comparable to Volvo’s equivalent diesel trucks, but with a much smaller climate impact. Gas engines can also use biological natural gas (biogas), up to 100% reduction of CO2 emissions; Using natural gas could also reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent compared with Volvo’s equivalent diesel trucks. Emissions here are defined as emissions over the life of the vehicle, the “fuel tank to wheel” process.

The new Volvo FH series can also be customized with a new, efficient Euro 6 diesel engine. The engine is included in the I-Save suite, resulting in significant fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions. For example, in long-distance transport operations, the all-new Volvo FH series with i-Save can Save up to 7% on fuel when combined with the new D13TC engine and a range of features
