Volvo Trucks North America has achieved an industry-first breakthrough in powertrain innovation with Volvo I-TORQUE. I-torque is now available as an option on the latest D13 turbocharged composite engine, designed to achieve first-class fuel efficiency without compromising performance, drivability or productivity.
The all-new Volvo I-Torque is a unique powertrain solution that enables the truck to run at peak performance, increasing its fuel efficiency range by up to 31% to a staggering 8.5 miles per gallon at 85 MPH *. The I-TORQUE includes the D13 turbocharged compound (TC) engine, the I-Shift with overspeed, an adaptive Shift strategy, a new version of the Volvo I-See map-based predictive cruise control system, and an extremely low rear-axle ratio as low as 2.15.
The overall functionality of the I-Torque configuration is that it uses Volvo Truck’s 13-speed I-Shift feature and caterpillar gears, and combines the fuel efficiency benefits of direct driving with the performance and flexibility of overdrive. By integrating I-SEE, low rear-axle ratio, and load sensing software – at highway speeds, the truck’s system will choose between direct drive or overdrive to maximize fuel efficiency without compromising performance or productivity.
The I-Shift, along with the new version of i-SEE technology, uses real-time map-based data and GPS positioning to manage speed and Shift in the most fuel-efficient way on any route or terrain, and saves an additional 1% on fuel. Further enhancing the driving experience of the VNL, its lower engine RPM creates a more pleasant driving experience during operation, with a quieter cab environment and less engine vibration.
“In today’s demanding and rapidly changing business environment of transportation, I – Torque requirements on various terrain and route with high flexibility and adaptability of the strong performance of the truck, so I – Torque is our customer solutions, they need to stay competitive and trucks, which will increase fuel economy and optimizing performance to a new level, And there was no compromise. ”The current business environment, with diesel prices well above $4 a gallon, is a good example,” said Johan Agebrand, director of product marketing for Volvo Trucks North America. We are proud to help improve customer productivity and cost savings through this industry-first technology, and further Volvo Trucks’ mission of providing solutions driven by our sustainable Development Goals to further reduce co2 emissions from trucks.
